Columbia City is known for harbouring very religious and warm-hearted people. Hence this city has several renowned churches. These churches not only function as places of worship but also organize charities for various causes like welfare of poor people.
American Baptist Churches are among the most popular Christian denominations today, with over 5,200 local congregations, constituted of 1.3 million members across the United States and Puerto Rico. Worship is done every Sunday or on other week days. Since Baptists first came to the continent many such organizations of Baptist churches have developed in the United States. The sources of the Baptist religion go back to the Reformation in England in the 16th century.
In May 1845, the Baptist congregations in America helped break captivity. This viewpoint of Baptist sources is the most broadly accepted and has the most historic support. Although, the Southern Baptist Convention (SBC) is the greatest non Catholic denomination in the USA, in 1991, most members left the SBC and created the CBF, highlighting international missions and what it considers “historical Baptist worth” including greater autonomy, priesthood of believers and spiritual freedom.
Whether you’re a believer, a seeker or a doubter, nurture and you’re encouraged to develop your religion in surroundings which are safe and supporting. Baptist churches are more concerned with counting on the Holy Spirit to disclose the spiritual message and seek the wisdom of one’s own religious expertise, customs and scriptures in making greater sense of our lives; they are less concerned with dogma and doctrinal statements.
Most Baptists are evangelical in doctrine, but Baptist beliefs can fluctuate as a result of a congregational government system that gives autonomy to individual local Baptist churches. In 1639, Williams created a Baptist church in Providence, Rhode Island , and Clarke started a Baptist church in Newport, Rhode Island. According to some Baptist historian who has studied the issue widely, “There’s much discussion over the centuries concerning whether the Providence or Newport church deserved the location of ‘first’ Baptist congregation in America.”
